Travel Guide

You are sitting at the center of a room. Eyes forward, staring curiously at the person in front. Following the movement of every opening and closing of his/her lips and then… the inevitable happens. Your mind starts to wander, thinking of different things — like the image of your dinner,  your ideal partner, your “what-ifs” and the way you want your life to be.

You have explored every possibility of your life but you haven’t understood anything that the lecturer had said.

Have you experienced this same scenario? This is what happens to me inside a classroom. It is really hard for me to focus when it comes to classroom education. My attention span is short and my thoughts keep on wandering. As a result, my learnings are cut. I’m more of a kinesthetic learner, I learn by doing. I absorbed information by doing things repetitively. This is a challenge since most classes focus on visual and auditory kinds of teaching.

THE MIND MUSEUM

Fortunately, there is a place for people like us to learn in an interactive way. The Mind Museum is a world-class science museum located in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Built to promote science and technology for future generations of Filipino scientists, innovators, and inventors. With the help of private corporations, learning science in a fun way is within reach.

I really wanted to visit this place in the past year but haven’t got the time to go.  When I was a child I had a deep curiosity for Science. I liked the subject and also dreamt of becoming an astronaut/astronomer.

The moment I set foot inside the museum, it felt different, as an adult in a children ‘s museum, I thought it would be boring. But as we explored more, I realized that no matter what your age is you can enjoy the museum as a kid will.

PLAY, LEARN, AND HAVE FUN!

We’ve learned and had fun from interactive exhibits by touching, smelling, hearing, and seeing. We pushed, pulled, pressed, rotated, and lifted any buttons and levers that we saw. Almost any kind of movement you can do except for tasting. Sad. XD Each gallery has a way of enticing your curiosity that will cater to any type of learner. There are exhibits that will explain and show the science behind the activity.

There are 5 wonderfully created galleries inside the museum for us to explore:

ATOM GALLERY

This gallery focuses on Physics and Chemistry — electromagnetism, light, static electricity, chemical bonds, elements, and forces. Here, we’ve experienced raising our hair with static electricity and moving a ring with electromagnetism.

LIFE GALLERY

This gallery tells stories about Biology and Zoology. Facts about evolution, the animal kingdom, and body parts of organisms. We’ve seen exhibits of a human brain, animal habitats, and a microscope to see the structure of certain objects.

The gallery for Geology, Paleontology, and Seismology. All about the stories of the Earth from its inception to modern times. This gallery shows simulations of earthquake levels, volcano eruptions and a fossil of a Tyrannosaurus Rex standing at the center of the gallery.

UNIVERSE GALLERY

From the birth of the universe to the discovery of new heavenly bodies. This gallery tells stories about the stars, planets, moon, gravity, and everything about outer space. Before entering, an astronaut suit greeted us. One of my favorite galleries because of the star-like lights above that emulates outer space.

TECHNOLOGY GALLERY

The only gallery located on the 2nd floor of the museum that focuses on innovation and technology — from ancient tools to modern marvels. Stories of how we prosper from these different technological advancements. We played with mirrors and arcades. Even with lasers and x-rays in a safe way!

We lost a lot of energy exploring the museum but it was a lot of fun full of learning! I’m not a kid anymore but this experience reminded me of some science concepts and learned even those I’m not familiar with. It is really a state-of-the-art facility. One can be amazed especially your children. Bring them here and maybe they might become the country’s future visionaries and Nobel Peace Prize Awardees.
