PILILLA WIND FARM
With the rise of renewable energy, windmill or wind turbine farms are sprouting throughout the country, and one of them is located in Rizal called Pililla Wind Farm. Pililla Wind Farm was developed by Alternergy Philippine Holdings Corporation (APHC) in partnership with the local government of Rizal. The farm is composed of 27 wind turbines and each has a height of a 33-story building. Collectively, it produces 54MW of wind power per year.
Pililla Wind Farm is not just an energy source but also a source of tourism. An average of 130,000 visitors per week visit the site which gives livelihood and opportunities for the local people living there.
FINALLY SEEING THE PILILLA WINDMILLS
After our lunch at Tanay Highlands, we proceeded to the wind farm. It’s been years since I heard of the Pililla Windmills and wanted to visit it but I didn’t have the opportunity to visit it until now. The road going there can be challenging because of the slopes and curves but despite that the view was amazing. As we were nearing the site, one by one, the windmills started to show in front of us. Seeing these towering structures left me in awe.
We arrived at the site and saw a lot of tourists. There is a business establishment called Altitude and Coolwinds where we parked our cars and used their restrooms. The entrance to the site is free but these establishments offer view decks, food & drinks, restrooms, and Kubo huts which will make your stay different and comfortable.
The site makes you see and experience a windmill just a few meters away from you. It also offers you an amazing view of the neighboring provinces and Laguna de Bay. There is also a Visitor Center where you can learn more about renewable energy and future projects.
Pililla Wind Farm may be far from the metro but the journey going there is worth it. Seeing these structures and views makes you want to believe that there is hope for a cleaner and better future, not just for the Philippines but for the whole world.
