THE PINK MOSQUE OF PEACE AND LOVE

Pink Mosque - Datu Saudi-Ampatuan, Maguindanao (Travel Guide)
This 2022 I had an opportunity to travel again. My cousin, Ben, asked me to be his assistant for a client in Cotabato City in Mindanao. I never expected my visit there to be an eye-opener.  Cotabato City is a Muslim-majority municipality and I got to learn a lot from their culture and religion. On our last day, we were allowed to visit known mosques around the area like the Grand Mosque of Cotabato and the Pink Mosque in Maguindanao del Sur.

The Pink Mosque, also known as Masjid Dimaukom, in Datu Saudi-Ampatuan was initiated by Mayor Samsudin Dimaukom to change the image of Maguindanao. They colored it pink to represent peace and love. He wanted it to be a symbol of unity and brotherhood for the whole Maguindanao. Muslim architecture always fascinates me with the qubba (dome) and crescent moon & star tops, unfortunately, we were not allowed to go inside to see the interior of the mosque. Another fact I discovered is that it was built by Christians from Davao.

We always thought of Maguindanao as a very dangerous place but with this structure, we continue to look at it and hope that peace and prosperity will be reached by the Maguindanaons.
