TRANQUIL BOOKS & COFFEE
When we arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, I had the goal of trying authentic Vietnamese coffee. One that locals have on their day to day basis. But I also want to try artisanal coffee made by local baristas. One cafe that Julie included in her itinerary is Tranquil Books & Coffee.
Tranquil Books & Coffee has many branches around Hanoi. The branch we visited is the one at 8 P. Nguyễn Quang Bích Street. We were greeted by this rustic facade covered in vines which has a mysterious vibe on it. As we entered the establishment, I had a feeling of being in a European cafe where the lighting and music blended so well with the silence of the guests. The cafe is small but it has an ambiance of grandeur. Pictures of celebrities and vinyls are posted on the walls which gives a retro and classy vibe. At the back, there is a bookshelf where guests can borrow and read inside the cafe.
TASTING ARTISANAL COFFEE
This is an artisanal cafe where the baristas are consciously preparing and brewing the beans to give a quality taste and experience for the customers. We ordered one of their bestsellers and watched the barista prepare our coffee drink. He weighed the beans, ground them with his tool, and then he boiled and checked the temperature of the water. He poured the water slowly into the ground beans that were sitting on a filter. The water turned brown as it fell into the glass container. Finally, we tasted the finished product. The coffee was strong but had a distinct taste and I liked it. You will probably understand what I’m saying if you can also try your first specialty coffee here in the Philippines.
If you want a quiet and comfy place to hang out and have coffee, Tranquil Books & Coffee might be the cafe for you. We only spend a couple of hours there but if given the chance to become a digital nomad and stay in a place that will give me inspiration and tranquility, I will come back here and experience its ambiance and coffee again.
