RUINS OR MOUNT MAYON SKYDRIVE ATV ADVENTURE?
Whenever Mayon Volcano is mentioned, you’ll always think of the Cagsawa Ruins and the ATV Adventure. Finally, after multiple visits to Cagsawa, we are now trying the Mount Mayon Skydrive ATV Adventure. Seeing the perfect cone shape of Mt. Mayon is breathtaking, but doing it in style is life-changing. Haha.
It’s always one of my bucket lists but we always don’t have the time to do the activity. This time we allotted one day of our vacation in Bicol to do the Mount Mayon Skydrive ATV Adventure. We availed our tickets via Klook (you can check the link below). It is an instant confirmation, so we just showed the ticket there and we are ready for the ride. We availed the Cagsawa Forest Trail which lasted for 1 and a half hours.
Before the ride, they gave us DOT-certified helmets and conducted a safety orientation. I imagined myself standing on the ATV while riding like I do when I’m riding a bike. It just gives me more control and balance and it is more fun. Unfortunately, it is not allowed. They observe safety very strictly so be very careful. There are two guides that accompanied us and one of them is responsible for taking our pictures.
TIME TO RIDE
We started at around 10 A.M. so the heat is getting intense. It is recommended to start early at around 7:00 A.M. Before going to the trail, a practice session is conducted. They taught us what to press and had a short drive going around to have a feel of the vehicle.
After the practice session, finally, it’s time to roll! Since we are a large group we started slow, making sure everyone is following. We started the trail with small slopes and then crossed rivers, it was fun but getting more challenging. There were a lot of slopes and river crossing and it’s getting steeper the farther we get. There was always a stop for the guide to take a position for him to get us a good picture. The farther we get, the better the view of Mayon Volcano we see. It was breathtaking.
Before turning back, we had videos and photos on our ATV with the Mayon Volcano as our background. The one and a half hours is short to see the trail more but it is enough to experience the adventure. When we got back to the office, I told myself that I want to try it again in the future. Lo and behold, I tried it again after a few months on a different trail and period of the day. This time with my uncles and cousins. Grateful for both of these ATV experiences. By Public Transportation:
- From Legazpi, ride a jeepney bound for Camalig, Guinobatan or Polangui.
- These will all pass by Cagsawa Junction. Tell the driver to drop you there.
- Then, you may either hire a tricycle or walk to the office of Mount Mayon Skydrive ATV Adventure.

NOTES:
- Trail guides are included in the package, one of them will be your group’s photographer
- They only allow 16-year-olds and above to self-drive an ATV. For ages 16 and below, back riding is recommended.
- 95kg is the allowable maximum weight of the rider.
- Wearing a helmet is a must, they provide Department Of Tourism-approved ones.
- Their guides always bring first-aid kits for emergency purposes. They also have VHF radios and cell phones to call out for help if first aid is not enough.
- If you do not have any idea about driving an ATV, they conduct safety orientation and driving practice before going on an actual ride. Their ATVs are fully automatic and easy to control.
- The best time to ride is early in the morning around 7:00 to 8:00 A.M.
