SIRUMA, CAMARINES SUR

During our visit to our relatives in Naga, we were told of a new destination in the Bicol Region known as Siruma. If we hear of Bicol, what we always think of is Naga, Albay, Caramoan, and Sorsogon. So hearing Siruma somewhat tickled my curiosity. I quickly checked Facebook for some details and photos about it and I was amazed at what I saw, it has white sand beaches and a view of rolling hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. In my mind, I already considered it as one of our destinations for our remaining days in Bicol. We first visited our relatives in Goa, Camarines Sur and we were invited to join them on their visit to Siruma.

Siruma is a town located in the northern part of Camarines Sur and a 2-hour drive from Goa. Our cousins chose a resort called Angelica Paradise Beach and Resort. I did not search for it on the internet so I don’t know what to expect. I’ll let myself be surprised once we get there.

ANGELICA PARADISE BEACH & RESORT

Cottages for rent

Angelica Paradise Beach & Resort is a secluded beach that offers an exotic retreat away from typically congested vacation areas. The way going to the resort is still a rough road so expect a muddy and shaky ride. The resort offers Hotel and Beach amenities. AC rooms can be found in the hotel and they have a swimming pool if you don’t want to dip on the beach. For the beach part, they have cottages for rent and a wide white sand beach to offer. There are also sari-sari stores if you want to buy snacks and toiletries. Camping is also allowed so you can pitch a tent.

The beach is very wide and we arrived there at low tide, we walked a vast area of white sand before reaching its clear waters. The sand is fine and the beach is clear without corals. We spent the whole morning and afternoon swimming even if the sun was at its peak. There are fishermen who sell their live catch and you can ask them to cook it for you. We had one and nothing beats a fresh fish for a hungry stomach.

We didn’t stay overnight but experiencing the heat, the waves, and the wind quenched our thirst for vitamin sea.

    • I went to Angelica Paradise Beach and Resort for my sons birthday overnight on Aug 18, 2024 with 6 people total and it was a disappointment to say the least.

1.) The water in the hotel pool was green and the bottom could not be seen even at the shallow end.
2.) There was dog poop in the grass around the hotel.
3.) Part of the hotel cement from the top part had fallen off and was laying on the ground.

We rented a room by the beach.
1.) The cabinet doors in the kitchen were all broken.
2.) The lights in the kitchen, bedroom and CR were all hanging by the wire as was the one in the cabana.
3.) The ceiling in the CR was starting to fall down.
      4.) The water was yellow.
5.) The screen in the CR was ripped so much to be of no use.
6.) The air conditioner filter had not been cleaned as it had build up no less than 1/4 inch high and very thick.
7.) To turn the lights on you had to keep flicking the switch until they came on in the bedroom and CR. Then they would flicker on and off until you kept flicking the switch to get them right. There are electrical shorts in the wiring. But when you tell the resort about it they say it’s from the electric company and not their wiring.
8.) The inside walls are cheap 1/4 plywood that is painted poorly at best.

In our room we had a full/size which 2 people slept on and one at the foot of the bed, on the floor in a very small space. After we checked out Sunday the people who were on the bed and at the foot of the bed started breaking out on the arms and legs from bug bites that turned red and itched. There was no sign of bed bugs so we suspect it was some other bug problem ( a type of mite) in the bed. As of the Tuesday after checking out, new bites were still appearing. The 3 who did not have contact with the bed did not have the first bite.

All this resort does is collect the money and ignore upkeep, repairs and maintenance. It is not worth going to.
