KUTA BUNGLIW ECO LODGE & CAMPSITE
This is my second time visiting Kuta Bungliw. The first time I’ve been here was in 2018 with Matt & Che. They introduced me to this simple but amazing place, which became our go-to sanctuary. The pandemic came and we got stuck at home, no outdoor activities and nature tripping was limited. I missed being in the mountains. In 2022, restrictions loosened and traveling became easier. At the same time, Che is now leaving for Germany, so we planned a Despedida trip back to Kuta Bungliw.
Kuta Bungliw is located in Daraitan, Rizal but it is also near the border of General Nakar, Quezon. Going there is an adventure. From Metro Manila, we need to cruise the Marilaque Highway going to Daraitan. The mountain view while we ascend Rizal is breathtaking so despite the long ride you’ll really enjoy it. Upon reaching the Agos River, we parked at Blue Eagle Parking. Then, we walked to the bank of the river where we rode a balsa to cross and took a trike going to Daraitan Barangay Hall. We ate lunch first then we took a 30-minute hike going to Kuta Bungliw. This was my first hike after the lockdowns so it was really challenging for me to take that short hike. Nonetheless, that hike was really good, I felt the adrenaline and breathed a lot of fresh air.
SINAG HILL AND THE BIRD’S NEST
A lot has changed in Kuta Bungliw since my first visit. The lodge is now bigger and better and still has the amazing forest and mountain view of Rizal and Quezon. A new area is also open called Sinag Hill, where you can enjoy the overlooking views while sitting in their indigenous man-made structures like the big bird’s nest and the bee hive. You can also meditate and have your prayer at their Grotto Cave.
My favorite amenity of theirs is the dipping pool. It’s very therapeutic. I can’t forget the peace I experienced there while staying in the cold waters. Imagine yourself, sitting inside the pool surrounded by nature. With the wind blowing, you breathe for fresh air and let your ear listen to the silence with just the chirp of the birds and insects and the swaying of the trees are the only sound you can hear.
I really like the lodging, it is native and very relaxing. That day we were the only ones occupying the lodge so we had the opportunity to enjoy the common area. We had a room with a bunkbed and also offered an amazing view. That night, it rained and I felt the cold weather. It was nice to cuddle, unfortunately, there was no one to cuddle. Haha!
By the way, they offer hiking tours as well, a climb to Mt. Daraitan or a dip into Tinipak River, and many more. Sadly our tito/tita body did not want to get exhausted so we chose to just have a staycation in Kuta Bungliw. We were very grateful to Ate Jacq for letting us stay and enjoy Kuta Bungliw once again. So if you are planning to visit Kuta Bungliw just call her and she will welcome you wholeheartedly as well.

HOW TO GET THERE:
- From Star Mall EDSA-Shaw, ride a van going to Tanay Public Market. (Travel time = 2 Hours)
- Ride jeepney at Tanay Terminal bound to Sampaloc. Drop at Sampaloc. (Travel time = 1 Hour)
- Charter a tricycle going to Daraitan (Ilog). (Travel time = 1 Hour)
- Cross the river via barge or bridge. (Travel time = 5 Minutes)
- Ride trike going to Kuta Bungliw jump-off. (Travel time = less than 30 Minutes)
- Trek going to Kuta Bungliw. (Travel time 5-10 Minutes)
