12 MONKEYS MUSIC HALL & PUB

12 Monkeys Music Hall & Pub

12 Monkeys is a business of rock stars Chito Miranda (Parokya ni Edgar) and Champ Lui Pio (Hale) with their 10 other friends, thus where the name 12 Monkeys comes from. With each member providing different expertise to support the business. 12 Monkeys provides a cozy and classy vibe for people who want to listen to live music and eat good food.

The music hall was located first in Century City Mall in Makati then in El Pueblo Real de Manila in Ortigas Center but when the pandemic hit, they closed down. In 2022, they were back in their new home in Estancia Mall in Pasig City. Going to 12 Monkeys can be quite expensive and I never thought of visiting the place soon. But this March 2024, an announcement from their Facebook Page made me very excited. One of the bands I’m eager to watch is performing. Pupil is back and performing back-to-back with my favorite band, Sandwich. I don’t want to miss this as I promised myself before that I would watch Pupil if they ever play live again.

We were still hesitant weeks before the gig because of the price. But after some time and thinking, we decided to push through. We did not reserve a table and planned to walk in and just be a stand-in.

Every time we were in Estancia Mall, we were curious about the interior of 12 Monkeys as the windows and doors are always covered and you can’t see anything from the outside. We entered the music hall and observed its fancy interior. Rows of tables and chairs are aligned facing the stage. Some of the tables have a comfortable sofa. A bar is located on the right side where alcoholic beverages are displayed.

We walk towards the side of the stage where the stand-ins are located. The location is very near the band but it can really be tiring since you need to stand all night. One guy shared with us that there were still tables available and asked us if we wanted to avail it with him. We accepted his offer as long as we could find other people who also wanted to share. Fortunately, we found 3 more and we are now 6 in the group.

ROCK & ROLL WITH THE LEGENDS

The table is a little far from the stage but we can still see and hear the bands. As for the food, we have a consumable worth ₱8,000 and we ordered beers, sisig, nachos, and pasta. It was all good but we were too focused on the band, we hadn’t consumed the whole ₱8,000. The band that performed first was Chicosci, then Pupil, and the last was Sandwich. During breaks, we will go out to see and ask for pictures with the members of the performing bands. Aside from them, we also saw, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, Zild, Blaster Silonga, Jay Contreras, and many more. It was a treat as the Eraserheads were complete that night.

We were very happy seeing Pupil perform live. I did not expect to see them perform live anymore since they became inactive these past few years. I listened a lot to their songs post-pandemic and I wanted to see how they perform live. They played really well and I hope to see and hear them again someday. That night ended with a performance of “Superproxy” sang and performed by Ely Buendia and Sandwich.

What is also amazing that night is that we met people, total strangers, having the same interests as us. We shared stories about our fandom and sang our hearts out to the music played by our favorite bands. It was an event that we almost canceled but grateful that we pushed through as we met new friends and listened to wonderful music.
