KABSAT LA UNION
Whenever I look for places to visit and try in La Union, I always see Kabsat La Union in the suggestions. Kabsat is a restaurant and bar located in the bustling surf town of San Juan. If you are wondering what is Kabsat, it is the Ilocano word for a sibling or kapatid.
I was fortunate to visit the place twice, the first one was when I was there for a drink with Julie’s friends and the second one was with my long-time friends, Albert and Marvin, where we had our dinner after our adventure from Bulalakaw Falls. I have never been here during daytime but I bet the view of the sunset here is amazing.
ARCHITECTURE
There’s always a long queue in Kabsat but fortunately, we were able to have our seats quickly. The restaurant has a combination of wooden, metal, and concrete architecture which gives a very local and natural vibe. Inspired by the nipa hut with a modern tropical style filled with reclaimed hardwood and rattan furniture. It has two floors where the first holds the cafe and bar. The second floor holds mostly the dining tables and the view deck facing the beach.
FOOD & DRINKS
Kabsat offers Filipino food, a must-try for foreigners to taste and experience. My friend told me before that their food improved a lot from their last visit here and I can say that it is really good. We got different dishes like the Sinigang na Baboy, Tuna Ceviche, Crispy Pork Sisig, Fried Chicken, and my favorite, the Kabsat Pancit which has a topping of shrimp and pork liempo chops. The servings are good for 3-4 people in which we finished very satisfied.
As for alcoholic drinks, they have cocktails, draft beers, gins, whisky, and wines. I only had one cocktail since we didn’t plan on getting drunk there but I suggest if you are planning to drink all night, you should stay outside on the beachfront where rows of bedlike tables make every guest comfortable while drinking and listening to party music.
I haven’t tried their coffee yet but if ever I get to visit Kabsat again, I’ll make sure to visit it during the daytime, grab a coffee, and see the sunset unfold from the view deck.
KABSAT VILLAS
The brand also now has accommodations for rent called Kabsat Villas. It is just beside the restaurant so if you are planning to have a vacation in La Union, might as well stay at their villas and then dine and drink in the restaurant.
